News & Announcements

September is National Suicide Prevention Month

We want to take this opportunity to remind families that our school district greatly values the wellbeing, mental health, and emotional wellbeing of our students. Mental health development starts at a young age. Our district is proud to utilize Second Step, an evidence-based PreK - 8 social emotional learning curriculum, to teach important age-appropriate coping skills and strategies to help build resiliency from a young age.

HB 3586

I am writing to inform you that HB 3586 is legislation that requires all Illinois public school districts to adhere to additional requirements related to the provision of special education. At Forest Ridge School District 142, we are now and always have been committed to parents meaningful participation in their children’s IEP meetings.

Information regarding NWEA MAP testing

We are beyond proud of the tremendous efforts of our students, teachers, and community to get the school year off to a strong start. We have been able to provide in-person instruction, while adhering to all health and safety protocols. We are also amazed by the engagement occurring during remote learning.

Steps for Student Self-Certification Update

Thank you for your patience and flexibility over the past two weeks with the self-certification process.

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, there will be a change. All students will receive a self-certification message to their individual district email address. This will help make sure each child is certified separately. With students taking their iPads home, notifications to self-certify will be sent to each student’s district email address instead of the parent/guardian addresses.

Schedule for Week of Labor Day

Thank you for a terrific first week of school in Forest Ridge School District 142. As we navigated through in-person hybrid learning, remote learning and the start to the school year, we were presented with a variety of challenges and countless successes.

Reflections from the First Day

Thank you for helping make the first day of school possible. Even through self-certification notification issues, and a Zoom and Clever outage, we thoroughly enjoyed seeing students in the school buildings and during remote learning today.

Steps for Student Self-Certification

On the days when your child is In-Person hybrid learning, you must self-certify that they are COVID-19 symptom free.

The district will be using Rave Mobile Safety. When you receive a text and email to self-certify, it is critically important that you do this promptly so the schools can run accurate lists for permitting students on school buses. The steps below will walk you through what you will need to do each morning prior to your child(ren) leaving your home.

We are in this together!

Thank you for your understanding as we pushed back the start of the school.

The Forest Ridge School District 142 staff has been working hard this week to ensure that we welcome our students back on Monday, August 24 to an organized, rigorous and safe learning experience, following the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidelines.

Start of the School Year Update

We wanted to share important news with you regarding the beginning of the school year. Due to the tornado, inclement weather, and extensive damage that have wreaked havoc on our community, including the fact that Foster School’s power was restored last night and that many of our residents are still without power/Internet as we speak; we have decided to pause the beginning of the school year in an effort to allow our community to get back on its feet.
