Summer Learning Programs

SUMMER LEARNING PROGRAM

This year, our summer learning program is available to all current students. The program will last four weeks, from June 21 to July 15 and will be provided at no cost to district families. Staff will provide virtual content in the format of a weekly grade level appropriate choice board. This will allow families flexibility in completing lessons and activities. Students will be assigned a summer learning teacher who will be available for contact Monday thru Thursday of each week, with the exception of Monday, July 5. Additionally, the teacher will hold daily Zoom meetings Monday thru Thursday, with the exception of Monday, July 5, for direct student contact. Students should plan to attend two Zoom meetings a week.

Fill out a participation form for each student that you would like to have participate in summer learning by Friday, May 28, 2021. Those students will be placed into grade level rosters and you will receive updates regarding summer learning information.

OUR KIDS READ 2021

We will also hold our annual “Our Kids Read” challenge. Through grade level reading goals, students have the opportunity to prevent summer slide and increase their reading capacity. We encourage all students, whether participating in our summer learning program or not, to join the summer reading challenge. If you have any questions about the “Our Kids Read” challenge, please reach out to Mr. Ryan Nagle, Assistant Principal of Hille Middle School.

STUDENT iPADS

The district WILL NOT be collecting student iPads at the end of the school year, with the exception of graduating 8th graders. More detailed information will be sent to 8th grade students and parents on Monday, May 17. Current Kindergarten thru 7th Grade students will have their district assigned iPad for summer use. Students will continue to have access to our subscription platforms like iXL, Seesaw and Wixie. Please be sure that your child adheres to the District 142 Acceptable Use Policy and the Guidelines 1-to-1 Technology at all times. Students will be required to bring their district assigned iPad when they return to school in the Fall.

2021-2022 SCHOOL CALENDAR

The district has finalized our 2021-2021 School Calendar. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 18 and our final day of school, if we do not use any snow/cold weather days, will be Tuesday, June 1, 2022.

Thank you again for all you have done to make this a successful school year. As always, if you need anything, never hesitate to reach out. We hope you have a wonderful Summer!
