State and District Learning Standards
Common Core Standards
The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.

Curriculum Maps, Curriculum Guides and Benchmark Assessments (Currently being developed )
Curriculum mapping - a road map that addresses the major ideas and projects that drive a class. This will also include capturing the content, skills, and assessments taught or administered by every teacher within a school building or district.
Curriculum Guides - what students need to be taught in sequential order and are consistent with curriculum maps, outcomes and the Illinois Learning Standards. This guide support whole-school and classroom-level approaches to curriculum planning, taking into account student diversity.
Benchmark Assessments – are assessments that are in alignment to the Illinois Learning Standards, it can be administered as whole-group or individual at regular intervals. The assessment results can be used to determine student growth and student performance relative to the Learning Standards that was set forth during the curriculum mapping. These assessments will also be used to guide classroom instruction and identify individual student needs for re-teaching, intervention and/or acceleration. In addition, Benchmark Assessments provide periodic evaluation of program effectiveness and guide professional development efforts.
