    Meal Time Lunch Program Reminder

    December, 2008

    Dear Parents,

With all of the excitement of the upcoming holidays, please remember to keep an eye on your student's lunch account balances. Classroom teachers and building secretaries cannot be responsible to see that every child has either a lunch from home, or money in their account to purchase a lunch. Funds should be deposited to clear any negative balances and to assure a positive balance for the start of school in January.
I would like to remind parents that the National School Lunch Program allows for the purchase of one lunch per day for students who have been approved for Free or Reduced cost lunches. If a student purchases a second meal OR milk only, their account is charged at the per item price, regardless of their eligibility status.
    Remember -
Students with Paid and Reduced-price status are allowed to overspend their account by no more than the cost of ONE meal - $2.35 for Paid status, $.40 for Reduced status. Students whose status is Free are NOT allowed to overspend their accounts at all.
Please Note- Online deposits can be made any time during winter break, although student accounts will not be updated until after December 31st.

Thank you and Happy Holidays to all!

  • New Teacher Evaluation Program
    Posted: 8/27/2008
Our teachers and administration have worked collaboratively to develop a new teacher evaluation process based on the framework of Charlotte Danielson. The framework includes 4 domains: Domain 1: Planning and Preparation; Domain 2: The classroom Environment; Domain 3: Instruction; Domain 4: Professional responsibilities. The evaluation process is based on reflection on practice, collaboration, self-assessment and self-directed inquiry and a community of learners. We will begin to use this process to evaluate our first and second year teachers and committee members.

  • Welcome to the launching of the PowerSchool Parent Portal!
    Posted: 3/18/2008
PowerSchool, a web-based student information system (SIS) began service for Forest Ridge School District in September 2006. It provides real-time information to all users over the Internet. To support and facilitate partnership in learning, the system has a component named the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal can be accessed from any Windows or Mac computer with a web browser and allows parents to securely view your child's attendance, grades, school bulletin and send emails to your child's teachers directly with the use of Internet. The Parent Portal allows collaboration to improve student achievement. Up-to-date, online access to grades, homework, attendance and assignments makes it easier for parents, teachers and students to accurately monitor, identify and accelerate student progress.

Join us for one of the Q & A sessions where we?ll demonstrate how to use PowerSchool Parent Portal:

Wednesday, April 2nd at Kerkstra Elementary School, 7:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 3rd at Hille Middle School, 7:00 p.m.

(Parents, you may attend either of the sessions, regardless of which school your child attends.)

More information about the PowerSchool Parent Portal will follow in the mail soon. If you are unable to attend, you'll receive instructions on how to access your child's grades and further information about the program.

Our 6th grade students will be working with the Junior Achievement program ?Economics for Success? during the morning schedule. Participation in this program, while career based, will also make students eligible to apply for a wide variety of grants and scholarships during their Senior year of high school.
