Other Community Resources

The Southwest Cook County Cooperative Association for Special Education provides many services available to all families that live within the Forest Ridge SD 142 boundaries. These services include, specialized instructional and related services for students with disabilities, post-secondary transition services for students with disabilities, and in-service training on a variety of topics. Staff members utilize these free trainings, but they are also free for anyone who resides within member district boundaries. More information can be accessed through www.swcccase.org. The Department of Human Services: Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) can be accessed at http://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=42717. The DRS offers are variety of services to individuals and families as well including Vocational, Home, Independent Living, and Educational.

The Department of Human Services: Prioritization for Urgency of Need for Services (PUNS) is a statewide database that records information about individuals with developmental disabilities who are potentially in need of services. The State uses the data to select individuals for services as funding becomes available, to develop proposals and materials for budgeting, and to plan for future needs. Bremen Youth Services http://www.bremenyouthservices.org/services/learn-more/ offers services locally to youth, individuals and families. Bremen Youth Services offers sliding scale fees for programs such as therapy groups, anger management groups, social skills groups, parenting groups, substance abuse programs, crisis intervention, mentoring, and summer camps.

The Illinois State Board of Education provides a comprehensive website at www.isbe.net which is a wealth of information. It includes a Parent Section, information on Special Education, Aseessment, and Homelessness.
